False Tropics

Written by benjamin on March 7th, 2009

Growing up I always looked upon images of tropical Australia with awe at the colour of the turquoise oceans and palm tree clad shorelines.

Turns out most of the tropical oceans are a milky brown colour and the clear turquoise waters are actually in the southern Indian and Southern Oceans.

Not that it’s a bad thing.  Meelup Beach, Dunsborough in all its glory.

The almost unquenchable final embers of an oceanic sunset.

Sunset over Bennion Beach

Written by benjamin on March 5th, 2009

As has been a running theme through this summer, another sunset image from Bennion Beach.  By fast my favourite beach in Perth’s northern beaches, its isolation from the rest of the coast and even the city; plunged down a cliff, make it an isolated place in a sea of suburbia.

Panned

If one were literally pan up from the scene presented in yesterday’s photo, one would have happily been presented with this view, though one would also be seeing white orbs for about half an hour afterwards!

Choppy

Written by benjamin on March 3rd, 2009

A single peak on a single wave can have the affect of knocking you flat, yet that single peak on that single wave is but a grain of sand on the beach to the ocean.

Insurgence

Another one of those images that doesn’t really look like a great deal but kind of looks familiar.  That description is probably sufficient.  And no, it’s not a pavlova.

In other news, Perth’s sunset put on a spectacular display this evening and I was lucky enough to be there to capture it.  Lots of great images to come from there in the coming weeks.

Warning Sign

The accuracy of this sign at Bennion Beach is exceptional.

Revelations

Written by benjamin on February 26th, 2009

Crepuscular rays would have to be one of my favourite sky artifacts.  Regards of your religious or spiritual persuasions, when such a display is taking place before your eyes, you can’t help but be moved by the vision of light streaming through and ‘touching down’.  I love nothing more than to watch gaps in the cloud stream over the ocean in winter revealing patches of silver light on the ocean.
