Waiting for the sun

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

One of the biggest parts of photography, especially when it deals with nature, is waiting.  It pays to have a good book in the glove box or snuggled in next to the lenses.

Hanging Low

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

A barely trying attempt at mammatus cloud lingers over the near shore at Bennion Beach, Perth.

Weeping

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

A bruised and laden sky, which ultimately resulted in a mere trickle (but a hell of a sunset) drifts south towards Perth, high above Bennion Beach.

Drumkits on my beach

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

It’s not every day you rock up to your local beach with the intent of taking some photos only to find some rock band shooting a film clip.  Well, it was this evening, apparently.

The Gathering

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Prior to a rare afternoon of summer rain, the sky over the ocean always takes on a certain hue.  The brief summer rain enjoyed in Perth on the 28th of February was no exception and over the next week or two I’ll feature some images I captured from that afternoon that included a fairly spectacular sunset.

Swath of Pink

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

A last minute freak chance capture of the pink glow of a sunset, shot from my office no less.

False Tropics

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

Growing up I always looked upon images of tropical Australia with awe at the colour of the turquoise oceans and palm tree clad shorelines.

Turns out most of the tropical oceans are a milky brown colour and the clear turquoise waters are actually in the southern Indian and Southern Oceans.

Not that it’s a bad thing.  Meelup Beach, Dunsborough in all its glory.

The almost unquenchable final embers of an oceanic sunset.

Sunset over Bennion Beach

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

As has been a running theme through this summer, another sunset image from Bennion Beach.  By fast my favourite beach in Perth’s northern beaches, its isolation from the rest of the coast and even the city; plunged down a cliff, make it an isolated place in a sea of suburbia.

Panned

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

If one were literally pan up from the scene presented in yesterday’s photo, one would have happily been presented with this view, though one would also be seeing white orbs for about half an hour afterwards!
